Happy Memorial Day
Finally a beautiful day to remember those in service to our country and to enjoy family, nature and gardening. This weekend was a “marathon” gardening event and 99.9% of our gardens are planted. Now we just have to sit back and watch the plants grow (no, not really). There is always weeding and watering and inspecting to do. This time of year, we also need to protect the fragile seedlings from those pesky varmints (we spayed garlic/cayenne spray last night to safeguard our hard work). This morning everything was still (thankfully) intact.

Joan of Arc presides over the small flower bed, while below, the other main gardens are shaping up well.
The “Pool Garden” is looking very tranquil with the iron bench an inviting place to sip a cold iced tea…..
On the other side of the yard is the “Main Garden” with a new tunnel protecting tender broccoli, kale and lettuce from hungry rabbits.
And in the last photo Barkley is inspecting the newly planted straight-neck squash. We are already thinking of the tasty squash pies we will be baking! (yum) For those of you who have never enjoyed a squash pie, they are similar to a pumpkin pie only a “lighter” summer pie, still full of flavor (and good for you too).
